Job Summary
Policy Advisor role focuses on policy research, analysis, and advocacy for Indigenous-led solutions within Friendship Centre communities. Responsibilities include gathering data from reports, policies, and statistics; building relationships with Friendship Centres to identify priorities; analyzing policy issues from an Indigenous perspective; developing policy papers, briefings, and submissions; and supporting capacity-building and training efforts. The position emphasizes preparing reports for funding bodies, engaging with government policy advisors, and delivering presentations, workshops, and proposals to advance organizational priorities. The role requires self-direction, collaboration across departments, and a commitment to Indigenous-led approaches within urban Indigenous communities.
Required Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in Public Policy, Political Science, Public Administration, or another relevant discipline
- 2-3 years experience in policy analysis or equivalent community development experience
- Experience with Indigenous community development work
- Demonstrated ability to build and foster relationships with Indigenous communities and external policy stakeholders
- Excellent writing skills including the ability to analyze complex policy concepts and communicate effectively for different audiences
- Knowledge of government organizational structures, political theory, and policy cycle
- Strong oral communication/public speaking skills
