Job Summary
Supervise daily work activities of commissioned officers and civilians, ensuring compliance with department policies and coordinating staff resources. Respond to all major and routine calls while directing subordinate activities, assisting in criminal investigations, and supporting officers at crime scenes. Evaluate subordinate reports and work, counsel on job performance, and assist with problem resolution and case problem solving. Conduct roll call and training, inspect officers and equipment daily, and receive citizen complaints for resolution. This internal recruitment requires five years of departmental seniority, firearms qualification, and a valid driver's license. Candidates must possess knowledge of criminal, constitutional, and traffic laws alongside leadership methods and department procedures. The role involves stressful situations, physical activity including restraint, and operating police vehicles and computers.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of five years departmental seniority
- Firearms qualification
- Valid driver's license
- Skills in problem solving, supervision and management, report writing, handling weapons, interacting with people; and written and oral communications
- Knowledge of criminal, constitutional, and traffic law
- Knowledge of City, Federal and State laws
- Knowledge of leadership methods and department policies and procedures
- Ability to establish and achieve reasonable goals
- Physical strength and ability to restrain others
- Ability to exercise good judgment under stress and lead and motivate subordinates
- Ability to deal effectively with the public, fulfill duties of subordinates, and assume command in the absence of ranking officers
- Daily operation of police vehicles
- Ability to utilize various computer programs and computerized equipment
- Certified Missouri peace officer
- Must be able to lift 10 to 20 pounds frequently
- High school diploma or equivalent
