Job Summary

Respond to emergencies, enforce motor vehicle and criminal laws, and investigate suspicious persons, safety hazards, and unusual or illegal activity during patrol duty. Maintain campus order by protecting life and property, responding to assistance requests, and promoting good community relations. Prepare reports documenting incidents and activities while participating in training activities including classroom and field sessions. Identify, pursue, and arrest suspects. Work outdoors in normal and adverse weather conditions, including weekends, nights, and holidays, with potential for casual and mandatory overtime. Report to campus immediately during emergencies or crises.

Required Qualifications

  • HS Diploma or equivalent
  • Two or more (2+) years of related experience
  • Permanent license as a Peace Officer from TCOLE or an out of state equivalent with the ability to qualify for TCOLE by date of employment
  • Valid Texas driver's license (or ability to obtain one within 30 days of employment) with no more than three moving violations within the past 36 months, and no convictions or deferred dispositions for Driving While Intoxicated or Driving Under the Influence within the past ten years
  • Must be able to work outdoors for prolonged hours during normal and adverse weather conditions
  • Weekend, nights, holidays, work schedules are set and there will be casual and/or mandatory overtime
  • On-site presence to effectively carry out its vital functions
  • Report to campus as directed to ensure continuity of critical operations
  • Remain accessible to leadership to fulfill responsibilities necessary to maintaining institutional functions
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to effectively operate various communications and data storage devices
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and in highly stressful and dangerous situations
  • Good situational judgment
  • Knowledge and application of the university parking and traffic regulations and Texas penal and traffic laws

Desired Qualifications

  • Associate's degree or higher
  • Prior law enforcement experience; it is highly desirable that the experience be in a school environment
  • A comprehensive understanding of university or higher education culture
  • Ability to develop positive and productive working relationships with students, faculty, and staff
