Job Summary
Collect evidence, conduct searches, and process suspects; enforce traffic laws, investigate accidents, and render first aid. Patrol assigned areas, respond to calls, make arrests, and issue citations while maintaining professional demeanor. Correct hazardous situations, interview witnesses, and prepare legal documents accurately. Testify in court as required and identify community problems through meetings. Work overtime with little notice, adapting to night shifts, weekends, holidays, and weather changes. Candidates must hold MPCTC certification, pass background and psychological exams, and possess a valid Maryland driver's license.
Required Qualifications
- Must be at least 21 years old
- Must be a citizen of the United States and a resident of this state
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Must be certified by MPCTC as a Police Officer in good standing
- Must be able to pass a background investigation, polygraph examination, physical examination, and emotional and psychological fitness examination
- Valid Maryland state driver's license or ability to obtain Maryland state driver's license
- Excellent communication, customer service, and problem solving skills, including the ability to maintain composure under stress
- Strong organization skills, able to multi-task, and can manage time to meet frequently changing deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Professional appearance and demeanor
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Must be able to adapt to changes in working conditions such as schedules (nights, weekends, and holidays), changing shift configurations, and variables of weather
- Must be able to safely perform the duties of the position without posing a threat to the health and safety of themselves or others
- Candidates must be of good moral character and emotionally stable
- Must be able to pass each step in the process before proceeding to the next step
