Job Summary
Police Officer assignment for the Highway and Bridge Safety Unit at the MTA Police Department, stationed at the Henry Hudson Bridge and Marine Parkway Bridge. Responsibilities include small span bridge patrol, proactive security checks, traffic control during incidents, crash investigations, testifying in court, coordination with NYPD and other agencies, providing police escorts, public safety outreach, and enforcing NYS laws and MTA regulations. Role focuses on around-the-clock bridge operation, with opportunities to engage in specialized equipment and traffic enforcement activities within MTA Bridges & Tunnels and related transit systems.
Required Qualifications
- Must be a police officer in good standing with a favorable service record
- Minimum of one (1) year of law enforcement experience
- Appointment requires a commitment to serve in Highway & Bridge Safety Unit for a minimum of two (2) years
- Proficiency in Traffic and Criminal Software (TraCS)
- Proficiency with License Plate Reader (LPR) systems
- Proficiency with NYS eJusticeNY Integrated Justice Portal
- Willingness to conform to uniform and appearance standards
- Ability to work cooperatively with multiple law enforcement agencies and participate in required training and operations
- Able to take initiative and make informed decisions autonomously in the field while maintaining communication with supervisors
- Obtaining driver’s license endorsements permitting operation of specialized vehicles (e.g., motorcycles, commercial vehicles)
