Job Summary
Patrol Harvard University buildings and adjacent areas on foot, bicycle, and in cruisers while investigating crimes, mediating disputes, and controlling crowds. Retain or arrest suspects, preserve crime scenes, and administer first aid as required. Inspect grounds and fire lanes for safety compliance, exercise police powers including searches and restraints, and prepare thorough incident and investigative reports. Work 40 hours per week in a 24/7 operation requiring ability to cover nights, weekends, and holidays.
Required Qualifications
- High School graduate/GED certificate
- US citizenship
- Massachusetts Class A license to carry a firearm
- Successful completion of firearms qualifications per Department standards
- Completed a Municipal Police Training Committee (MPTC) approved basic Police Recruit Academy
- Active motor vehicle operator's license
- Ability to work any and all shifts
- Ability to work nights, weekends, holidays
- Successful completion of pre employment screening psychological test and physical agility test
- Ability to obtain MA POST Commission Certification
- Ability to obtain SSPO Warrant of Appointment
- Pass a state and national background check under M.G.L. c. 6E, § 4
- Ability to obtain MA POST Commission Certification and SSPO Warrant of Appointment and pass a state and national background check under M.G.L. c. 6E, § 4 as a condition of employment
Desired Qualifications
- Associate Degree in Criminal Justice or a related field
