Job Summary
Enforce applicable codes, ordinances, and laws to protect life and property while patrolling designated areas and responding to dispatch calls. Detect and deter criminal activity by apprehending offenders, writing citations, and providing backup support to other agencies. Conduct preliminary investigations by interviewing witnesses, securing crime scenes, preparing reports, and testifying in judicial proceedings. Perform rescue functions at accidents and emergencies, including evacuating individuals and administering medical aid. Monitor and respond to calls for assistance, perform traffic control, investigate crimes, and process prisoners. Follow safety procedures by driving efficiently in various conditions, inspecting vehicles and equipment, and maintaining professional affiliations. Create positive public relations by attending community events and educating the public on crime prevention. Communicate effectively via telephone and two-way radio, attend required training sessions, and process documentation such as incident reports and warrants. Coordinate work activities with supervisors, City employees, outside agencies, and the public. Operate law enforcement equipment including firearms, electronic control devices, and personal computers.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- One (1) year of work experience that shows an ability to maintain steady employment in any field
- Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job
- Valid South Carolina driver's license
- South Carolina Law Enforcement Officer certification
