Job Summary
Police officer responsible for patrolling city streets and parks, conducting investigations, directing traffic, responding to emergencies, preparing reports, and testifying in court. Requires enforcing laws, maintaining peace, and performing community-oriented policing activities. Must possess knowledge of law enforcement principles, operate standard equipment (including patrol car, radio, breathalyzer, and handcuffs), and meet physical and background requirements including driving license and fitness tests.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Florida driver's license (or ability to obtain by time of hire)
- High school diploma or equivalent supplemented by completion of State Basic training academy or equivalent within 1 year after employment
- U.S. citizenship
- Ability to read and write English
- Good moral character with temperate and industrious habits as determined by background investigation including psychological examination and a polygraph examination
- Must pass the Physical Agilities Test
- Knowledge of modern law enforcement principles, procedures, techniques, and equipment
- Skilled in operating tools and equipment
- Ability to learn applicable laws, ordinances, and department rules and regulations
- Ability to perform work requiring good physical condition
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
- Ability to exercise sound judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
- Ability to learn city geography
