Job Summary
Conduct patrol duties by detecting and responding to law violations, hazards, and emergency or non-emergency calls. Enforce traffic laws, correct hazards, assist distressed motorists, and investigate accidents. Respond to crime scenes to secure evidence, take reports, interview witnesses and suspects, and prepare crime reports. Assist in civil dispute resolution, maintain community relations, and compile statistical law enforcement data. Operate a police vehicle in all weather conditions and apply constitutional, state, and city laws to take appropriate action including warnings, citations, or arrests. Maintain equipment, follow safety procedures, and attend required training while working under the direction of the Police Sergeant.
Required Qualifications
- Valid full-time POST license by the date of hire
- Valid MN driver's license (or ability to obtain)
- A strong moral compass, clean driving record, and a desire to serve
- Ability to pass comprehensive background, psychological, and physical exams
- First responder certification or ability to obtain within six months
- Valid driver's license at application
- Valid Minnesota driver's license at time of appointment
- Must meet all state-mandated requirements and local policies such as a physical examination and criminal background check
Desired Qualifications
- Two- or four-year degree in law enforcement related field
