Job Summary

Patrol assigned areas by automobile, motorcycle, on foot, or Segway to enforce laws, prevent crime, and respond to calls involving robberies, assaults, homicides, and narcotics violations. Subdue resisting offenders, make arrests, secure crime scenes, and investigate property and person crimes by gathering evidence, interviewing witnesses, and preparing cases for prosecution. Handle hazardous materials incidents, traffic accidents, impaired drivers, and crowd control while maintaining canines, supervising new officers, and participating in specialized tactical training. Conduct problem-oriented policing, present public relations programs, and provide security at special events and court proceedings.

Required Qualifications

  • Must be 21 years of age at the time of entering the Police Academy
  • Valid Driver's / Motorcycle License
  • POST Police Officer Certification
  • Must continuously meet all the requirements and standards of POST
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Must possess computer application skills that at a minimum include Microsoft Office Suite products including Word and Excel
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs
  • Ability to speak clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations
  • Ability to write clearly and informatively
  • Ability to follow instructions, responds to management direction
  • Ability to meet scheduling and attendance requirements
  • Must regularly required to lift and/or move, push or pull up to 25 pounds
  • Must occasionally required to lift and/or move, push or pull up to 50 pounds without assistance
  • Must up to 100 pounds or more with assistance
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and peripheral vision
  • Must regularly required to stand
  • Must frequently required to walk
  • Must occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
  • Must regularly required to lift and/or move, push or pull up to 25 pounds and occasionally required to lift and/or move, push or pull up to 50 pounds without assistance and up to 100 pounds or more with assistance

Desired Qualifications

  • Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two year-college or technical school
  • two to three years related experience and/or training
  • equivalent combination of education and experience
