Job Summary
Police Officer Candidates are non-sworn members of the Simmons University Police and Public Safety Department tasked with enhancing campus safety. Responsibilities include patrolling university facilities, responding to service calls, providing community escorts, and conducting safety inspections. Candidates will be required to complete Massachusetts Police Training Council academy training, achieve POST certification, and may be subject to mandatory overtime and holiday work. Applicants must hold a high school diploma, be at least 21 years old, possess the ability to obtain necessary firearms licenses, and comply with pre-academy requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Must be age twenty-one (21) at the time of application
- Valid Class D operator’s license at the time of appointment
- Must possess or be able to obtain a Massachusetts Class A Large Capacity License to Carry Firearms
- Successful completion of all MPTC pre-academy entrance requirements
- Successful completion of a Municipal Police Training Committee (MPTC) certified basic police Recruit Officer Course
- Obtain and retain a POST (Peace Officers Standards and Training) certification
- Obtain and retain Special State Police powers in accordance with M.G.L. ch.22 s. 63
- Obtain and retain Suffolk County Deputy Sheriff's powers
Additional Requirements
- An employee who voluntarily terminates employment with the Simmons University Police Department prior to three (3) years of service following completion of a University-sponsored police recruit academy shall reimburse the University for expenses related to such training at the rate of $600.00 per week for each week of attendance at a recruit academy while employed by Simmons University.
