Job Summary
Patrol University property to enforce rules, state laws, and municipal ordinances while protecting life and property under the supervision of the Director of Public Safety. Maintain full police power and authority on designated university and adjacent jurisdictions. Submit to a detailed background investigation including credit checks and fingerprinting within ten days of conditional employment. Complete The Council on Law Enforcement Education and Training (CLEET) Oklahoma Basic Police Academy within six months and remain with the Cameron University Office of Public Safety for a minimum of one year.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of a standard high school or equivalent
- 21 years of age
- Mature judgment
- Ability to work with minimum supervision
- Ability to work nights, weekends and holidays
- Possession of a valid Oklahoma driver's license
- Ability to perform certain physical activities associated with the duties of a police officer
- Qualification to carry a firearm
- Willingness to submit to a detailed background investigation to include a credit check
- No felony convictions
- No convictions for crimes involving moral turpitude
- Willingness to be fingerprinted within ten days of conditional employment
- Willingness to submit fingerprints to O.S.B.I. and FBI for record checks
- Willingness to take a psychological examination that will be evaluated by a licensed psychologist
- Successful completion of The Council on Law Enforcement Education and Training (CLEET) Oklahoma Basic Police Academy within six months of conditional employment
- Agreement to remain with the Cameron University Office of Public Safety for a minimum period of one year
- Agreement to reimburse Cameron University for the Basic Police Academy training expense
- Completion of a minimum 25 hours of CLEET mandated training annually
- Completion of a minimum of 2 hours of CLEET mental health training annually
- Completion of a one-year probationary period beginning from the date of graduation from the Police Academy or date of hire whichever is the latter
Desired Qualifications
- CLEET Police Officer certification
- Successful completion of college level courses in criminal justice or law enforcement
- Two years of law enforcement experience
- Experience working in a university environment
