Job Summary
Police Cadet attends a basic police training program conducted by the Texas Engineering Extension Service Law Enforcement Training Division and includes one week of departmental orientation. Starting hourly rate: $30.11 per hour. The selection process includes online application, Personal History Statement, interviews, written exam, background checks, polygraph, medical and drug screenings, psychological exam, fingerprint check, and final selection, with an expected duration of 90-120 days. Responsibilities include training and orientation, classroom instruction and exercises, and operating a university vehicle. Preferred Bachelor’s degree. Requirements include high school diploma or GED, Texas class C license or ability to obtain within 30 days, ability to pass multiple examinations and background investigations, strong interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to work under stress and multi-task in a campus environment. Positions are security-sensitive and subject to credential verification and background checks.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED
- Two years of full-time employment experience or military service, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Must have a State of Texas class “C” vehicle operator’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment
- Required Licenses: State of Texas police licensing exam upon employment
- Must pass an entrance exam to be considered for employment
- Must be in excellent physical health and stamina
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to communicate effectively with all segments of the campus population
- Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others

- Must be able to pass polygraph and psychological evaluation
