Job Summary
Complete the assigned Police Academy program while demonstrating professionalism, discipline, and compliance with all Academy rules and regulations. Finish departmental training assignments, professional development activities, and emergency preparedness exercises. Observe police investigations and operational procedures for educational purposes. Perform other duties as assigned. This Evergreen position recruits individuals for a career pathway to the position of Police Officer (In Training) within the Prairie View A&M University Police Department, supporting the department's commitment to professionalism, community engagement, and public safety.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Two years of full-time experience
- Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others
- Must be in excellent physical health and stamina
- Must be 21 years of age at time of employment
- Must successfully complete a Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE)-approved Basic Peace Officer Academy
- Must commit to a minimum of two (2) years of service following appointment as a Police Officer I
- Must have a State of Texas class 'C' vehicle operator's license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment
- Applicant must pass an entrance exam to be considered for employment
- Applicant must successfully pass psychological evaluation, physical examination, and complete background investigation to include but not limited to driving history, criminal background, and credit history
Desired Qualifications
- Military service with an honorable discharge
- Previous experience in public safety, security, customer service, or emergency response
