Job Summary
Develop lesson plans and training materials consistent with MPOETC learning objectives, then conduct scheduled training sessions as directed by the Director. Report on time for all teaching assignments and maintain current certifications required to instruct in the academy setting. Follow the Commission's Academy Director and Instructor Code of Conduct while promoting a professional, safe, and respectful classroom environment. Assist in curriculum development and attend all mandatory meetings. Requires MPOETC general instructor certification, relevant education, and police experience; full-time role with on-site location.
Required Qualifications
- Five (5) years of police experience
- An Associate of Arts degree plus four (4) years of police experience
- A Bachelor of Arts degree plus three (3) years of police experience
- Attorneys licensed to practice in the PA Commonwealth
- Instructors teaching subject areas requiring professional education or licensure
- Must be a certified general instructor
- Be able to obtain certification as a general instructor with MPOETC
- Successfully complete a Commission-approved instructor development course
- Hold a valid teaching certificate by the Department of Education
- Be employed full-time with academic rank at an accredited college or university
- Working knowledge of MS Office
- PA State Police Criminal Record Check (Act 34)
- Any additional criminal background checks as required by MPOETC
- Be MPOETC certified to instruct as a General and/or Special Instructor at the Academy
- Valid Pennsylvania Driver's License when teaching courses that require it
- Must be able to stand and/or sit for prolonged periods of time up to one hour in duration
- Be capable of lifting 35-pounds
- Be able to frequently operate a computer and a motor vehicle
Desired Qualifications
- Knowledge of student assessment tools, strategies, and modalities preferred
