Job Summary
Cook at Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Denver prepares and directs others in all aspects of meal preparation to execute an efficient, economical, and nutritious food service program for the shelter; supervises food donations and storage, assists with production and presentation of daily menus and events; ensures sanitation, safety, and portion control; trains volunteers; drives the agency van to pick up and deliver food supplies; supports the organization’s mission and ethics; requires ability to read, write, and communicate effectively, work with diverse clients, and travel minimally within the local area.
Required Qualifications
- Institutional and restaurant experience as well as a good working knowledge of commercial food preparation and production standards including sanitation safety standards.
- Good working knowledge of all commercial grade kitchen equipment.
- The ability to be able to function independently and maintain self-sufficiency with minimal supervision.
- Express excellent interpersonal communication skills, flexibility and willingness to shift priorities as needed.
- Knowledge of the service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics and the appropriate techniques and practices for the client population.
- Ability to interact effectively as a team member and independently with Agency staff and with a diverse client base.
- EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and/or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
