Job Summary
A plumbing journeyman is a skilled tradesperson responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing plumbing systems in residential settings. Key responsibilities include installing, repairing, and maintaining plumbing fixtures and systems (pipes, water heaters, drainage systems); reading and interpreting blueprints and technical drawings to determine layout; diagnosing plumbing issues, conducting inspections, and identifying leaks or blockages; ensuring work complies with local plumbing codes and safety regulations; communicating with clients to explain issues, provide cost estimates, and ensure satisfaction; mentoring apprentice plumbers and less experienced workers.
Required Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent; completion of an apprenticeship program in plumbing
- Licensing: Valid journeyman plumber license is required
- Experience: Typically requires 3-5 years of experience in the plumbing field
- Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of plumbing systems, tools, and materials; ability to troubleshoot and resolve plumbing issues effectively
- Physical Stamina: Ability to lift heavy objects, work in confined spaces, and perform physically demanding tasks
