Job Summary
Install, maintain, and repair plumbing and heating systems in a school setting; clear wastewater/sewage lines regularly; service, maintain, and rebuild pump systems, lift stations, and fire sprinkler systems; train new employees in trade practices and procedures; install water service piping and tap water/sewer mains; install and repair fixtures such as lavatories, drinking fountains, and sprinkling systems; cut, bend, and thread pipes; install hot and cold water, oil, steam, or gas pipes; repair heating system pipes and valve traps; respond to emergency situations as required; operate commercial service vehicles; communicate effectively with staff; practice safe work habits; work from ladders, scaffolds, and lifts; use smartphones/tablets/laptops for work orders and timekeeping; perform other duties as assigned by the Foreman.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Current Apprentice Plumber License issued by the Baltimore Board of Commissioners of Practical Plumbing
- Four (4) years of progressive plumbing experience, including at least one (1) year as a Maintenance Plumber I or equivalent
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints
- Knowledge of commercial building mechanical and plumbing systems
- Working knowledge of Charles County Plumbing Code and regulations
- Valid Maryland Class C driver’s license with a clean driving record
- Willingness to undergo additional training as needed
- Strong interpersonal skills for working with staff and school faculty
- Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division)
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and maintenance manuals
- Willingness to work overtime during emergencies
