Plumber Helper (8 Hours/260 Days)

Job Summary
Conduct preventive maintenance on district-owned facilities, examining pipes, drains, and fixtures for plumbing, pipe fitting, and sewer issues. Instruct custodians and maintenance workers on proper procedures and tool usage while ordering and accounting for materials and labor. Maintain inventory of hand tools, equipment, and supplies, and communicate with foremen to discuss current and anticipated workloads. Drive a company vehicle to locations within the District as needed to complete assigned routine and planned maintenance. Perform general maintenance inside and outside the physical plant, adhering to state, local, and Board of Ed safety and code guidelines.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Two years plumbing experience
- Thorough knowledge of plumbing procedures
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
- Ability to obtain pool operator certification
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
- Ability to speak effectively
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume
- Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry
- Ability to interpret and apply common sense understanding in carrying out instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form
- Ability to analyze information and use logic to address work related issues and problems
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
- Ability to pass a district written and physical test
- Ability to work in a constructive mode
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community
- Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies
- Must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints
- Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
- Must be able to lift and/or move up to 90 lbs
- Must be able to squat, stoop or kneel
- Must be able to reach above the head
- Must be able to reach forward

- Must be able to work near or with moving mechanical equipment

Desired Qualifications
- Master Plumber or Journeyman card preferred
- Certified in back flow prevention
