Job Summary
Assist Journeyperson Plumber in all aspects of plumbing trade, maintain shop machinery and tools, read/interpreting blueprints, and participate in apprentice training with the goal of qualifying as a Journeyperson upon successful completion of apprenticeship. The role is a benefits-eligible, union position starting at $22.95/hour with variations by apprentice year; requires union membership or initiation within 30 days, a valid US driver's license, the ability to lift up to 50 pounds, and tolerance for overtime and potential shift work. The position is located on Cornell's Ithaca campus with onsite work expectations.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Mechanical aptitude for equipment repair and maintenance
- Excellent verbal and written skills, customer relations skills, and the ability to work in a team environment
- Must belong to the local Plumbers and Steamfitters Union or be able to join within 30 days after starting employment at Cornell
- Must have and maintain a valid US driver’s license; may be required to operate a motor vehicle to travel to/from job sites
- Ability to maintain a safe work environment
- Ability to lift and/or move 50 pounds
- Possibility of shift work
- Ability to wear a respirator and other employer-provided safety equipment
- Risk exposure to asbestos, toxic vapors, heat, cold, height and accumulated dirt
- Available to work overtime as duties require, including weekends
