Job Summary
Diagnose, repair, design, or replace all district plumbing fixtures, gas pipe systems, sprinkler systems, and water heaters. Manage, inspect, and report on work performed by service contractors while working with authorities having jurisdiction to satisfy inspection requirements. Assist in the design of renovation, upgrade, and remodeling projects in coordination with other departments. Maintain a safe work environment and respond to critical needs at any time of day or night. This twelve-month position requires a current Iowa Plumber license and a backflow license, with a schedule involving continuous standing, lifting up to 50 lbs., and exposure to inclement weather. The role supports the Iowa City Community School District's goal to enhance student learning and promote the overall efficiency of the school system.
Required Qualifications
- Current Plumber license from the State of Iowa
- Possess the ability to size, specify, design, cost estimate, order and install all types of plumbing parts and equipment
- Experience in troubleshooting, servicing, and repairing commercial plumbing systems
- Experience in gas pipe installations, sprinkler systems, outside irrigation systems, and public water systems
- Knowledge of local and state codes and industry standards
- Must have a backflow license or be able to obtain one with the first year of employment
- Ability to communicate effectively with others, both verbal and written
- Maintain a current, valid driver's license
- Experience with computers and email
- Must be physically and medically able to wear respiratory protection
