Job Summary
Lead the platform team by influencing architectural decisions without formal authority, challenging technical paths with solid reasoning, and raising engineering standards through ADRs and RFCs. Apply deep knowledge of modern backend systems, the data stack, and AI tools to unblock concrete problems and support modernization efforts in legacy and on-prem environments. Collaborate with stakeholders to co-create solutions while managing disagreements constructively, ensuring alignment across the team. This Tech Lead role focuses on driving technical direction for a banking client within a remote-first startup culture.
Required Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Tech Lead or Staff Engineer, leading through influence, consensus, and example
- Strong architectural judgment, with experience challenging and validating technical decisions
- Solid, current knowledge of modern backend engineering (Python, APIs, microservices, CI/CD) and/or the modern data stack (dbt, Redshift, orchestration, Data Mesh) — sufficient depth in at least one to unblock the team on concrete problems
- Active use of AI tools in daily engineering work (PoCs, reviews, documentation)
- Strong political and interpersonal skills — able to co-create with existing technical stakeholders and manage disagreement constructively
- Experience documenting and communicating decisions via ADRs/RFCs and technical standards
Desired Qualifications
- Experience covering both backend and the full modern data stack (one is sufficient, both is a plus)
- Experience with Internal Developer Platforms and golden paths (Backstage, NullPlatform, or similar)
- Experience with AI/LLM platforms
- Strong DevOps knowledge, ideally with AWS
- Experience leading modernization efforts in environments coexisting with legacy/on-prem systems
- Previous experience in the banking/financial industry
