Job Summary
Determine donor eligibility by conducting medical history interviews, physical examinations, and blood testing while managing informed consent and confidential self-exclusion. Evaluate donor reactions and adverse events per SOPs, including developing standing orders for medical emergencies and coordinating transport to emergency facilities. Review laboratory test results and notify donors of unsuitable findings, while supporting Hepatitis B and seasonal flu vaccination programs for employees. Manage employee incidents and refer to occupational health or ER as needed, potentially serving as a Pandemic Coordinator for community threat investigations.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent to including graduate equivalent of a recognized educational nursing program with state requirements
- Currently licensed or certified in the state where responsibilities will be assigned: EMT-Paramedic
- Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and AED certification
- Fulfill state requirements (in state of licensure) for basic IV therapy
- Satisfactorily complete the FDA approved training requirements for BioLife Medical Support Specialist
- Two years in a clinical or hospital setting
- Commitment to customer service and quality
- Familiar with regulations of the plasma collection industry or a manufacturing environment
- Ability to determine donor eligibility
- Ability to manage donor adverse events
- Ability to review laboratory test results
- Ability to notify donors of unsuitable test results
- Ability to manage informed consent
- Ability to provide AIDS education
- Ability to manage confidential self-exclusion
- Ability to conduct medical history interviews

- Ability to provide guidance concerning medical or technical issues
- Ability to support the Hepatitis B and Seasonal Flu vaccination programs for employees
- Ability to manage employee incidents
- Ability to determine whether further evaluation is required by occupational health/ER
- Ability to refer to EHS guidance regarding employee incidents
- Ability to be a Pandemic Coordinator when authorized by EHS
- Ability to support investigations associated with pandemic threats within the local community
- Ability to follow guidance provided by BioLife Medical Affairs
- Ability to provide center level support of environmental, health and safety (EHS)
- Ability to report to the Plasma Center Manager
- Ability to work under the guidance of the Center Manager (or Assistant Manager as applicable)
- Ability to work under the management of the Center Physician
