Job Summary

Determine donor eligibility through medical history interviews, physical examinations, and blood testing while managing informed consent and confidential self-exclusion. Evaluate donor reactions and manage medical emergencies by following SOPs, including donor transport to emergency care. Review laboratory test results and notify donors of unsuitable findings, referring to the Center Physician for guidance on medical or technical issues. Support the Hepatitis B and Seasonal Flu vaccination programs and manage employee incidents requiring occupational health evaluation. When authorized, coordinate pandemic threat investigations within the local community. Report to the Plasma Center Manager and Center Physician to support plasma center operations and environmental, health, and safety standards.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent to including graduate equivalent of a recognized educational nursing program with state requirements
  • Currently licensed or certified in the state where responsibilities will be assigned: Emergency Medical Technician -Basic (EMT-B), Advanced (EMT-A), Intermediate (EMT-I), and Paramedic (EMT-P), Licensed Practical Nurse / Licensed Vocational Nurse (LPN/LVN), and Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and AED certification
  • Fulfill state requirements (in state of licensure) for basic IV therapy
  • Satisfactorily complete the FDA approved training requirements for BioLife Medical Support Specialist
  • Two years in a clinical or hospital setting
