Job Summary
Provide regulatory compliance guidance for BESS plant controllers operating in multiple ISO markets (PJM, MISO, SPP, CAISO, ERCOT, and others); review and validate control system designs for NERC/IEEE reliability standards compliance; advise on ancillary services participation strategies (frequency regulation, spinning and non-spinning reserves, voltage support, FFR, PRF); support ICCP implementation and real-time market communication with ISOs/RTOs; collaborate with control system engineers on setpoint management, state of charge optimization, and market dispatch integration; interpret market signals and translate requirements into PLC control logic and HMI displays; support performance validation testing to meet market participation requirements; interface with utility customers, schedulers, and market operators; stay current with evolving market rules and grid codes affecting energy storage participation.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or related field
- 5+ years of experience in bulk electric system operations with an ISO, RTO, or utility control center
- Strong understanding of North American electricity markets and ancillary services
- Experience with ICCP protocol implementation and configuration
- Knowledge of NERC reliability standards and regional compliance requirements
- Familiarity with energy storage market participation rules across multiple ISO territories
- Understanding of real time dispatch, scheduling, and settlement processes
