Job Summary
Plant Scientist in Kent, OH responsible for propagation production and postharvest quality of floriculture and hydroponic crops under controlled environmental conditions. Focus areas include specialty substrates for propagation, soilless cultivation, and hydroponic production, with emphasis on developing sustainable, biobased solutions to improve growth and quality. Conduct plant science experiments, report results via research and technical reports, and contribute to new products and processes. Collaborates with plant and polymer scientists, marketing, manufacturing, quality, and sourcing; provides technical support to sales and customers; coordinates field trials for new product applications; mentors Research Technicians. Requires a master's degree or PhD in plant science/ horticulture, greenhouse/CEA experience, ability to design experiments, travel readiness, and strong communication skills.
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree or PhD in plant science or horticulture emphasizing greenhouse production, controlled environment agriculture production, plant pathology or plant microbiology
- strong working knowledge and interest in propagation, nutrition, and production in soilless media and/or hydroponic production of food and floriculture crops
- ability to design and conduct specific research to answer questions and solve problems to develop and commercialize products for propagation and production in soilless media and/or hydroponic production
- strong verbal and written communication skills for effective internal and external stakeholder interaction
- ability to travel domestically and internationally
- greenhouse experience required
