Job Summary
Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot all water and wastewater treatment plants and pumping facilities to ensure regulatory compliance and operational efficiency. Supervise Plant Operator I staff, including training, task assignment, and performance feedback. Perform advanced operational laboratory testing, chemical dosing, and system monitoring. Respond to on-call duties and emergency situations, participate in special projects, and develop/execute preventative maintenance programs. Maintain accurate logs and regulatory reporting, and ensure compliance with DEP and other regulatory agencies. Requires strong technical expertise, leadership, and the ability to work independently in potentially hazardous and time-critical environments, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Knowledge of state and federal regulations governing water and wastewater treatment, plus proficiency in operating and maintaining electrical, mechanical, and process control systems. Physical ability for climbing, lifting, and working in various conditions; strong communication skills for public interactions and interdepartmental coordination.
Required Qualifications
- Florida DEP Class C Wastewater and Drinking Water Operator Certification required
- Valid Florida driver's license and insurable by the City’s insurance carrier
- Valid Class E driver’s license, required
- CDL – Class B with tanker endorsement, preferred
- Three (3) or more years of experience in water or wastewater plant operations, including at least one year in a supervisory or lead role
