Plant Metallurgist

Job Summary
Provide metallurgical guidance to internal departments by interpreting analysis results, assessing internal processes, and identifying process failure root causes to offer solution recommendations. Lead investigations related to customer claims of substandard material and manage metallurgical workflow and report databases. Develop, apply, and maintain quality controls systems for materials used in the process, including periodic audits to assure conformance to ISO 9001 standards. Utilize Statistical Process Control and Advanced Quality Process tools to implement improvements to processes and create internal material, process, and verification standards. Consult on material specifications and processes for design and manufacturing while participating in continuous improvement initiatives to foster operational efficiencies.
Required Qualifications
- Knowledge of or experience working in ISO 9001 system
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)
- Ability to adapt easily to change and lead others through it
- Excellent attention to detail, time management, organizational, operational, and follow-through skills
- Excellent command of Microsoft Project Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint, and data base systems
- Team player: ability to work effectively across functional lines including internal and external customers
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Metallurgy or Material Sciences
- 5 or more years' experience in steel or metals industry
- heavy manufacturing experience
- Experience with Lean Manufacturing principles
- demonstrated ability to thrive in a continuous improvement culture
