Job Summary
Conduct maintenance testing of protective relays and metering systems during plant shutdowns, including backup support for battery maintenance, transformer device testing, and revenue meter calibration. Perform general electrical system design, commissioning, modification, and troubleshooting while executing digital and analog relay calibration. Travel approximately 20% within southern Alabama, primarily by driving, with periodic overtime required to support customer schedules. This role supports Plant Barry, Plant Theodore, and Plant Washington County, with secondary coverage for Southern Company Renewable sites.
Required Qualifications
- Associates degree or two-year technical school
- Experience in electrical controls, maintenance, and troubleshooting
- Familiarity with electrical test equipment and device calibration
- Ability to read and understand electrical schematics and wiring diagrams
- Ability to use basic computer applications

- Safety focus and a strong personal safety record
- Travel within the southern portion of the State of Alabama
- Expected travel requirements will be approximately 20%
- Primary mode of transportation is driving

Desired Qualifications
- Associates degree or two-year technical school preferred
- Highly desirable abilities would be experience with legacy and microprocessor-based testing protective relays
- Working knowledge basic electrical control systems
- Familiarity with metering and protection systems, batteries, chargers, and inverters
- High degree of familiarity with electrical test equipment and procedures
- Good understanding of mechanical concepts
- Knowledge of basic engineering mathematics
