Plant Engineer

Job Summary

Troubleshoot manufacturing operations to improve quality, cost, and efficiency while researching and approving new equipment upgrades. Manage a team of Tool and Die technicians and coordinate project design changes, establishing sequences for part fabrication and tracking tooling budgets. Develop and document procedures for product assembly and test, define expectations for vendors, and implement policies for engineering work. Continuously improve preventative maintenance programs, analyze production costs, and conduct root cause analyses on recurring downtime. Coordinate quality control activities, maintain equipment documentation, and ensure team compliance with training and safety standards.

Required Qualifications

  • 4-year degree in Mechanical, Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering, Engineering Paper Science, or related field
  • 5 years relevant experience
  • Proficient user of AutoCad
  • Communication, interpersonal and problem solving skills
  • Computer literate in company systems
  • Communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to motivate, train and delegate responsibility
  • Ability to lead, build consensus and work within a team environment
  • Initiate and manage change
  • Familiarity with the SQF Code
  • Proven engineering and leadership experience in a manufacturing environment aimed at total customer satisfaction
  • Familiarity with appropriate measurements relating to safety, production, quality, materials, inventory, and financial reports to accurately assess the operations and track improvements
  • Knowledge of work methods and the standard cost system
  • Conceptual, analytical problem solving with strong organizational skills, and flexibility to deal with rapid change
  • Self-confident, assertive, principled, disciplined, direct when necessary and diplomatic when required, with a sense of humor and empathy for plant personnel in personal circumstances
  • Results oriented and promote a winning attitude toward customer satisfaction, operational excellence and people development
  • Technical knowledge in the gable top manufacturing process
  • Must be able to accurately observe correct paths of travel and areas for product placement
  • Must be able to communicate and exchange information with teammates
  • Must be able to operate office equipment including desktop computers, handheld devices, photocopiers, scanners, facsimile machines, and voicemail systems
  • Normally works an 8-hour shift but may work more hours as needed
  • Stand/walk 8-12 hours a day on concrete
  • Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs. on occasion from floor level
  • Turning while carrying 25 lb. load
  • Must be able to sit, stand, stoop, squat, climb, reach, grasp, grip, carry, and maneuver around an office and the production floor
  • Must be able to work on manufacturing production floor and able to wear all required safety equipmen

Desired Qualifications

  • Technical Undergraduate Degree preferred
