Job Summary
Plant Cell Biologist to join BASF's Plant Genome Engineering Leadership Team at the R&D Innovation Center in Gent, Belgium. Lead transformation, cell/tissue culture, regeneration and genome editing workflows in core crops (soy, oilseeds, cotton); design cell-based assays and screening workflows to support trait discovery and development; translate fundamental plant cell biology insights into practical, fit-for-purpose protocols; contribute to research portfolio, drive innovations, and coach technicians in the lab; represent BASF in external seminars, publish scientific articles, and contribute to IP filings; ensure compliance with Quality, Health, Safety, Environment, Biosafety, Regulatory, and IP standards.
Required Qualifications
- PhD in Life Sciences or equivalent through experience
- minimum 5-10 years hands-on expertise in plant cell and tissue culture, regeneration, and transformation techniques
- strong understanding of plant cell biology and ability to translate insights into practical protocols
- experience leading research projects and activities; ability to design and implement plant genome engineering technologies
- experience with assay automation, genome editing, publishing, and IP filing (preferred)
- excellent communication and presentation skills; fluent in English
- ability to work in cross-functional teams and mentor staff
- experience with laboratory information management systems (LIMS) and data management (preferred)
