Job Summary
Planning & Protection Engineer responsible for planning, protection, and reliability of Penn Power’s distribution systems. The role involves performing planning studies to drive distribution system expansions, modeling the distribution network to calculate voltage drop and fault currents, conducting switching and protection studies, preparing budgets and schedules for system reinforcements, coordinating protective devices, designing and supporting distributed control systems, conducting load and power quality studies, evaluating interconnection opportunities for customer distributed generation, supporting storm/restoration activities, and providing field commissioning support. Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (ABET) with 0-5 years’ experience (PE license or advanced degree in EE from ABET program as alternative). Willingness to travel across the service territory and relocate to western Pennsylvania.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering / Electrical Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited institution OR PE license OR (Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or technical field of study (non-ABET) plus an advanced degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program)
- Minimum 0-5 years engineering work experience
- Successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering exam considered a plus
- Demonstrated experience with electrical systems, operations, maintenance practices, switching and tagging, computer systems, work management and electrical controls
- Relay control work experience is a plus
- Ability to travel throughout service territory and work extra/irregular hours
- Willingness to relocate to western Pennsylvania area
