Job Summary
Planning Engineer, Transmission Integration responsible for conducting power system engineering studies (power flow, stability, short circuit, transfer limits, resource adequacy) and evaluating reliability, economic, and regulatory impacts of transmission projects. Performs market simulation and production cost analysis, coordinates interconnection studies for proposed transmission projects, reviews major project details under FERC Order 1000, prepares reports for NYISO’s Transmission Integration Department, and collaborates with interregional and public policy planning groups (NERC, NPCC, NYSRC, EIPC, NYDPS). Requires ability to read and analyze complex documents, strong statistical/optimization skills, and experience with industry-standard software tools. The role balances onsite and remote work with several days on-site in Rensselaer, NY, and a preference for collaboration, presentation, and stakeholder engagement.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree (BS) in Electrical Engineering, Economics or related technical field
- Two years of related experience in power system planning, energy policy analysis, substation and transmission design, energy and/or energy economic modeling
- Proficiency in advanced power flow and transient stability applications software (PTI PSS/E, GE PSLF, PowerFactory, or PowerGem TARA) is desired
- Experience with LMP and production cost simulations using security constrained commitment and dispatch software such as PLEXOS, GridView, MAPS or PROMOD is highly desirable
- Excellent teamwork, interpersonal and communications skills required
