Job Summary
Planning and Development Technologist providing information and direction on Strathcona County planning policies and processes, reviewing applications for submission completeness, educating clients on requirements and approvals, serving as the technical expert for Planning and Development customers, and interpreting municipal and provincial regulations to support development projects and environmental initiatives; requires a diploma or degree in urban planning plus experience, eligibility for Safety Code Council designation, and membership eligibility in Alberta planning associations; proficient in POSSE, Microsoft and Adobe tools, and Google Maps; strong customer service and problem-solving skills are essential.
Required Qualifications
- Diploma in Urban Planning or related discipline plus 2 years related experience in a planning environment, or a Degree in Urban Planning or related discipline
- Eligibility to become a member of the Safety Code Council with Designation of Powers
- Eligibility for membership in the Alberta Development Officers’ Association
- Knowledge of the Municipal Government Act, Land Use Bylaw, Municipal Development Plan, Safety Codes Act and other legislation
- Ability to read and interpret detailed construction plans, building plans, site plans, Real Property Reports, engineering supplements, schedules and specifications in relation to the application process
- Strong understanding of community and land use planning in Alberta
- Thorough knowledge of the municipal planning and development approval process
- Excellent organizational, planning and time management skills to work efficiently within restricted timelines and adapt to changing priorities
- Ability to communicate effectively in a customer focused environment and maintain a high standard of accuracy and attention to detail
- Proficiency in POSSE, Microsoft Suite products, ADOBE Suite and Google Maps
- Submission of a Satisfactory Criminal Record Check
- Equivalencies of education and experience may be considered
