Pipeline Technician

Job Summary

Conduct daily patrols of nitrogen pipelines to ensure normal operation, inspect field equipment, and maintain signage per APCI PM system. Review and respond to design requests, submittals, and P&ID alignment sheets while meeting with contractors to protect pipelines from damage. Perform scheduled preventative maintenance, meter calibrations, and troubleshooting for basic electrical and mechanical support tasks. Maintain familiarity with cathodic protection principles and participate in site safety programs, lockout/tagout procedures, and required training. This on-call role requires availability for nights, holidays, and weekends, with an expectation of walking up to three miles in rough terrain. Candidates must possess strong troubleshooting skills, a dedication to safety, and the ability to work independently.

Required Qualifications

  • Willing to carry company provided cell phone and respond to pipeline/plant call-outs during off-hours (nights, holidays, and weekends)
  • Understanding and proper use of AZ811 call before dig system
  • Use of 'Dig Tix' software
  • Ability to walk an average of 3 miles a day in rough terrain in extreme conditions
  • Meeting with contractors, designers, city representatives to protect the pipeline from damage/rupture
  • Reviewing and responding to design requests and submittals
  • Regular patrols of pipelines to insure normal operation
  • Scheduling and supporting pay meter calibrations and periodic preventative maintenance per standards
  • Must be willing to take on-call during nights, holidays, and weekends
  • Clean driving record required
  • This is a safety sensitive position
  • High school diploma/GED
  • Trade/Technical degree or apprenticeship in a related field
  • Detail oriented and willing to document details appropriately
  • Strong troubleshooting and fault isolation skills

  • Must be team oriented and have a willingness to learn and further develop technical skills

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in positive locating of underground utilities using locating equipment common to excavation industry is a plus
  • Read and understand P&ID's, pipeline alignment sheets, and wiring schematics
  • An understanding of Cathodic Protection for underground pipeline and maintenance activities is preferred but not a requirement
  • Participation in pipeline/plant initiatives
  • Participation in pipeline training opportunities
  • Maintaining pipeline signage and field equipment as needed and per APCI PM system for pipelines
  • Participation in the sites safety program (BSP)
  • Familiar with Lock out, Tag out and safety work permit systems
  • Basic electrical understanding and troubleshooting
  • Mechanical support
  • Perform simple PM tasks
  • Trade/Technical degree or apprenticeship in a related field is a plus and are encouraged to apply
  • Military service in a related field a plus but not required (Aviation Electrician, Electronics Technician, Gas Turbine Technician, etc.)
  • SAP experience is a plus but not required
