Job Summary
Install underground pipe for storm, sewer, and water utility systems by reading grade stakes, blueprints, and utility plans. Prepare, grade, and clean trenches, then rig and guide materials safely during lifting and placement. Set pipe to proper line and grade using lasers or levels, assemble and seal joints, and install fittings, valves, manholes, and catch basins. Backfill and compact trenches following project requirements while communicating with equipment operators via hand signals and radios. Inspect installed pipe for alignment and proper connections, maintaining tools and a clean work area. This role requires physical labor, including lifting 50+ pounds, and adherence to OSHA regulations and company safety policies.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of experience in underground utility pipelaying
- Experience installing water, sewer, and storm drainage systems
- Ability to read grade stakes and understand line and grade requirements
- Knowledge of trench safety and excavation practices
- Ability to lift 50+ pounds and perform strenuous physical labor in varying weather conditions
- Reliable transportation to job sites
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening and all applicable pre-employment screenings
- Strong commitment to safety and teamwork
Desired Qualifications
- Experience working around GPS-controlled excavation equipment
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 Certification
- Confined Space Certification
- Competent Person (Excavation) certification
- Experience installing ductile iron, HDPE, and restrained joint pipe
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
- Experience working on municipal or commercial underground utility projects
- Ability to operate small equipment such as compactors, pumps, or skid steers
