Job Summary
Apply brazing and cutting processes to join, fabricate, or repair fluid system piping and associated hangers and supports. Fit straight pipe runs between brazed, welded, or mechanical fittings while working from blueprints and engineering sketches to develop complete units as designed. Lay out and mark points on parts using rules, squares, scribes, or templates, then position pieces into jigs and holding fixtures using measuring instruments and hand tools. Remove old equipment and piping systems with minimal damage to surrounding materials, maintaining certification in brazing procedures and adhering to established safety protocols. Participate in special projects as required. Maintain certification in brazing procedures as required by Quality Assurance Manager.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED, plus technical/vocational training or the equivalent combination
- Typically requires 1+ years of related experience
- Must possess basic computer skills to enter data into different data basis
- Current brazing Certification for Cu and CuNi piping materials
- Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check and obtain and maintain a security badge for all military installations and civilian shipyards as needed
- Advanced knowledge of welding tools and procedures
- Knowledge of geometry, weld shrinkage, welding techniques, and physical properties of metal
- Frequently the employee is required to carry objects that might weigh up to 50 pounds
Desired Qualifications
- Experience working in the marine fitter trade gained through a formal apprenticeship or equivalent training is preferred
