Job Summary
Use brazing and cutting equipment to perform shop and shipboard pipefitter functions, including the repair, removal, and installation of structural materials and complex fluid system piping. Apply brazing processes to join and fabricate piping hangers and supports while working from blueprints and specifications to develop complete units as designed. Lay out and mark parts using templates and position pieces into jigs using measuring instruments. Maintain certification in brazing procedures and perform all work in accordance with established safety procedures. Work on a ship with occasional exposure to confined spaces and fumes.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED, plus technical/vocational training or the equivalent combination
- Typically requires 1+ years of related experience
- Must possess basic computer skills to enter data into different data basis
- Current brazing Certification for Cu and CuNi piping materials
- Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check and obtain and maintain a security badge for all military installations and civilian shipyards as needed
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
- Advanced knowledge of welding tools and procedures
- Knowledge of geometry, weld shrinkage, welding techniques, and physical properties of metal
- Frequently the employee is required to carry objects that might weigh up to 50 pounds
Desired Qualifications
- Experience working in the marine fitter trade gained through a formal apprenticeship or equivalent training
