Job Summary
Cut, thread, and hammer pipe to specifications using saws, cutting torches, and benders. Assemble and secure pipes, tubes, and fittings by welding, brazing, cementing, and soldering. Attach piping to walls, structures, and fixtures using brackets, clamps, or welding equipment. Inspect, examine, and test installed systems using pressure gauges and hydrostatic testing. Measure and mark pipes for cutting and threading. Plan pipe system layouts, installations, or repairs according to specifications. Perform cross-training tasks in millwrighting, welding, sheet metal, and rigging projects as needed. Work on steam, hot water, heating, cooling, and industrial production systems.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- two years related experience and/or training
- equivalent combination of education and experience
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
- Ability to regularly stand
