Job Summary
Pipefitter II sought to layout, fabricate, install, and test piping systems aboard U.S. Navy and commercial vessels in a Norfolk, VA shipyard. Responsibilities include laying out, fabricating, fitting, and installing pipe and tubing for fluid, drain, and pneumatic systems per drawings, MILSPECs, NAVSEA standards; installing structural supports; reading maritime blueprints; basic pipe bending; fabricating piping assemblies in shop; brazing and operating gas-free equipment; hydrostatic pressure testing; preparing and installing system modifications (TEMPALTs, SHIPALTs, ORDALTs); pre-fabrication; testing completed installations; selecting piping materials; and supporting production/maintenance goals. Qualifications require 3-5 years maritime/shipyard pipefitting experience, familiarity with NAVSEA MILSPECs and shipyard work instructions, strong understanding of shipboard mechanical systems, ability to obtain security clearance, physical requirements, ability to pass Audiogram & Respirator Fit Test, and proficiency with MS Office. The role involves site visits aboard ships and rigs, exposure to harsh conditions, and equal opportunity employment practices.
Required Qualifications
- 3-5 years maritime or shipyard pipefitting experience
- Familiarity with NAVSEA Standard Items, MILSPECs, and shipyard work instructions
- Strong understanding of shipboard mechanical systems and installations
- Must be able to obtain security clearance or meet access requirements for naval shipyards, if applicable
- Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the job
- Must be able to pass an Audiogram & Respirator Fit Test
- Must be able to communicate effectively with customers & supervisors
- Must have familiarity using MS Office products (Word, Outlook)
