Job Summary
First-Class Pipefitter (Journeyman) is responsible for fitting pipe made of steel, galvanized, copper, copper-nickel, and stainless, plus valves and fittings, following drawings, arrangements, and blueprints. The role involves production areas with varying heights, confined spaces, and variable weather, with potential day or night shifts based on shipbuilding needs. Requires interpretive skills for drawings/blueprints, proficiency with measurement (metric and standard), and familiarity with piping systems and testing procedures. The position is based in Pascagoula, MS, with on-site work in a shipyard environment. Candidates should be prepared for both day and night assignments and to operate in potentially 24-hour shift rotations. Safety practices including lockout/tagout and SDS awareness are emphasized, along with ability to perform flushing and hydrostatic/air testing; knowledge of datum lines and blueprint reading is essential.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5+ years trade experience
- Basic math, reading and comprehension skills
- Knowledge of layout, fit-up, fabrication and installation of pipe, flanges and valves
- Read and interpret trade drawings and/or blueprints (metric and standard measurements)
- Ability to read a tape measure (standard and metric)
- Ability to work day or night depending on ships under construction
- Capable of using hand tools such as torches, jacks, come-alongs, chain falls, grinders
- Knowledge of piping systems, valves and components
- Understanding of lockout/tagout procedures and testing procedures
- Knowledge of piping drawings and pipefitters handbook
