Job Summary
Conduct strenuous manual labor on heavy and highway construction projects, including digging trenches, backfilling excavations, and compacting earth. Set up, maintain, and dismantle scaffolding, barricades, and traffic control devices while directing site traffic. Load, unload, and distribute materials and tools; assist craft workers such as carpenters and ironworkers. Operate power and hand tools like air hammers, earth tampers, and cement mixers, and perform daily safety checks on equipment. Adhere strictly to safety protocols and work in outside weather conditions, including extreme heat and humidity. Requires a high school diploma, one year of general labor experience, an active driver's license, and the ability to lift 75 pounds regularly.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or general education degree (GED)
- One (1) year experience working as general laborer, or equivalent experience
- Active Driver's license
- Ability to operate a variety of tools and equipment such as hand tools, power tools and motorized equipment
- Ability to listen, follow directions, and have a willingness to continue to enhance skills
- Able to communicate effectively with jobsite supervisor and co-workers
- General knowledge of road construction processes
- Demonstrate a safety first attitude. Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures
- Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, and the general public
- Ability to work nights and weekends when necessary
- Must have reliable transportation, and ability to travel to assigned worksites
- Must be physically able to repetitively lift and carry at least 75 pounds on a regular basis, and sometimes heavier weight
- Agility, balance, and manual dexterity, as well as arm-hand steadiness
- Able to hear and respond to oral instructions in a noisy environment
- Excellent hand, eye and foot coordination
- Good vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus
- Pipe layer experience
- Underground utility
- Heavy equipment operator
