Job Summary
Pilot Plant Manager in San Francisco leads Pilot Plant and Labs operations, partnering with Chefs, Food Scientists, and Product Developers to drive pilot tests, product development, and industrialization while ensuring safety and maintenance of facilities. Responsibilities include organizing daily and yearly planning for Pilot and Labs activities, maintaining operations authorization, training and people safety, attracting and retaining R&D talent, leveraging supplier and vendor relationships, and delivering data-driven results for launches of plant-based products. Requires 5+ years in pilot plants for plant-based foods, a Bachelor’s degree in a related field, vendor/co-manufacturer experience, startup-oriented mindset, leadership and cross-functional collaboration, strong planning/execution, proficiency with MS Office (Excel), and willingness to travel ~15%. Compensation is experience-based.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in food engineering, food science or a similar discipline
- 5 or more years of progressive R&D experience in Pilot Plants for plant-based food products
- experience in working with Pilot and Labs vendors and co-manufacturers
- ability to travel at least 15% of the time
- strong planning, project management, and execution skills
- demonstrated leadership ability + work well in teams and cross functional groups
