Job Summary
Provide person-centred patient assessments and interventions for complex conditions within the Critical Care Unit while collaborating with the interprofessional team. Foster best practices by participating in quality improvement initiatives, evaluative processes using standardized outcome measures, report writing, and research activities. Support ongoing learning through continuing professional development, including clinical and educational in-services, and supervise physical therapy students on an ongoing basis. Serve as an expert resource for staff, students, and other healthcare providers regarding physiotherapy for ICU patients. Participate on appropriate committees pertaining to the operation of the Critical Care Unit and discipline-specific activities within Physiotherapy Services in accordance with the College of Physiotherapy of Ontario standards of practice.
Required Qualifications
- MSc[PT] or equivalent
- Registered with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario
- Rostered with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario for Tracheal Suctioning and Administering a Substance by Inhalation
Desired Qualifications
- One to two years of general acute care physiotherapy experience preferred
- Assessment and treatment experience with older adults (65 years+) who have complex health issues, including confusion, dementia, delirium, falls, weakness and decreased mobility or ambulation
- Strong ability to manage multiple tasks and set priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Superior ability to quickly build trusting relationships as a new team member into an established interprofessional team environment
- Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills
- Member of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association preferred
