Job Summary
Teach undergraduate physics and astronomy courses, including lectures, labs, and theory, while maintaining an active research program with summer undergraduate assistants. Fulfill 24 semester hours annually for full-time roles, integrating faith, ethics, and diversity into all instruction and serving the department, students, and wider community. Affirm commitment to the Reformed Christian educational mission and Calvin University's liberal arts goals.
Required Qualifications
- PhD in Physics or a related field
- Commitment to the educational mission of Calvin as a Christian liberal arts university affiliated with the Christian Reformed Church
- Commitment to the Christian faith and to the integration of faith, learning, and student development
- Demonstrated awareness and commitment to effectively establishing relationships and positive communication across multiple dimensions of diversity including, but not limited to, race, gender, physical limitations, class, or religious perspectives
- Ability to teach a variety of introductory and intermediate-level undergraduate physics courses, both lecture and lab, and some upper-level undergraduate physics theory courses
- Ability to maintain an active experimental, computational, or theoretical research program that includes undergraduate research assistants during the summers
- Willingness and ability to do interdisciplinary teaching as well as physics (if position is more than half-time)
