Job Summary
Teach introductory and intermediate undergraduate physics and astronomy courses, including lecture, lab, and theory sections, while maintaining an active research program with undergraduate assistants. Fulfill 24 semester hours per academic year and integrate questions of meaning, significance, and ethics into all course content. Affirm commitment to the educational mission of Calvin University as a Christian liberal arts institution in the Reformed tradition. Submit a one-page application letter and a 250-500-word statement describing Christian faith and interest in teaching and scholarship at a Reformed Christian university. Submit full curriculum vitae, teaching philosophy, and a research plan. Application review begins immediately and continues until the position is filled.
Required Qualifications
- PhD in Astronomy or Physics or a related field
- Ability to teach a variety of introductory and intermediate-level undergraduate physics courses and introductory astronomy courses, both lecture and lab
- Ability to teach at least one upper-level undergraduate physics theory course
- Ability to maintain an active experimental, computational, or theoretical research program
- Ability to include undergraduate research assistants during the summers
- Commitment to the educational mission of Calvin as a Christian liberal arts university affiliated with the Christian Reformed Church
- Commitment to the Christian faith and to the integration of faith, learning, and student development
- Demonstrated awareness and commitment to effectively establishing relationships and positive communication across multiple dimensions of diversity including, but not limited to, race, gender, physical limitations, class, or religious perspectives
