Physician position at Sheriff Al Cannon Detention Center in North Charleston, SC. The Site Medical Director provides oversight of clinical services, supervises professional and paraprofessional staff, ensures on-call coverage, and reviews/approves clinical protocols, policies, and medical disaster plans. Responsibilities include managing referrals to outside facilities, sponsoring Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners, participating in credentialing and hiring, conducting in-service training, representing the healthcare program in meetings, documenting encounters in patient records, ensuring formulary adherence, and delivering emergency treatment on-site. The role requires graduate medical education, state licensure, DEA registration, and preferred board certification/eligibility in Family or Internal Medicine with administrative experience in corrections. Strong teamwork, independent decision-making, and effective communication with staff, patients’ families, and officials are essential.
