Job Summary
Diagnose a wide range of illnesses and injuries in detainees/inmates and manage their overall care while communicating with specialists as needed. Examine patients, order studies and tests, prescribe medications, and provide lifestyle advice consistent with clinical practice guidelines. Maintain clear health records, collaborate with hospital medical teams, nurses, and administrative staff, and perform 24-hour on-call coverage to advise nursing staff. Conduct chart reviews for quality assurance, designate care levels, initiate referrals, and participate in mortality reviews.
Required Qualifications
- Medical degree in medicine from an accredited school
- Licensed to practice as a medical or osteopathic physician in the state in which the facility is located
- Board Certified/Board Eligible in primary care or related field
- Two (2) years of direct work experience as a Physician
- Completion of a U.S.-based residency program
- Current DEA and D.P.S. Certificate of Registration
- Professional license
- Independent, critical thinking skills
- Up-to-date pharmacology, safety, and medical skills
- Ability to deal effectively with difficult detainees and facility staff
- Ability to adjust medical techniques to accommodate the needs of the specialized population of the detention setting
- Ability to utilize Electronic Health Record systems
