Job Summary

Conduct diagnostic radiology casework for the Armed Forces Medical Examiner System, interpreting post-mortem CT, fluoroscopy, and plain-film radiographs to determine cause and manner of death. Provide expert radiological consultation for medicolegal investigations, collaborate with DNA labs for skeletal identification, and lead real-time clinical review sessions with Forensic Pathologists during autopsies. Generate legally defensible reports, deliver expert testimony in federal courts, and oversee radiologic technologists while standardizing imaging protocols to align with international standards. Maintain statistical records, participate in daily mortality reviews, and integrate emerging technologies like post-mortem CT angiography into routine workflows.

Required Qualifications

  • Board-certified Radiologist
  • Doctor of Medicine (M.D.)
  • Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.)
  • Accredited U.S./Canadian medical school degree
  • Foreign equivalent with permanent ECFMG certification
  • Fifth Pathway certification
  • USMLE completion
  • Current, active, full, and unrestricted state, territory, or District of Columbia medical license
  • Minimum of 1 year of accredited supervised clinical experience (internship or first-year residency)
  • Successful completion of an accredited residency program in Diagnostic Radiology
  • Equivalent experience/training totaling at least 4 years (experience cannot substitute for required residency)
  • Must have particularly outstanding, authoritative, broad, and intensive knowledge of all modalities of radiology, with an emphasis on forensic radiology
  • Maintain board-certified proficiency in cross-sectional imaging (CT/MRI)
  • Maintain board-certified proficiency in musculoskeletal radiology
  • Maintain board-certified proficiency in emergency/trauma imaging
  • Eligibility: Open to all U.S. Citizens
  • Qualifying experience includes both paid and unpaid/volunteer work
