Job Summary
Evaluate and treat pediatric patients presenting with respiratory distress, seizures, infections, toxic exposures, and acute exacerbations of chronic conditions. Perform rapid assessments, initiate life-saving interventions, and execute emergency procedures including airway management, intubation, vascular access, lumbar puncture, and fracture reduction. Order and interpret laboratory studies, radiographs, and ultrasound examinations to develop evidence-based treatment plans. Stabilize critically ill patients and determine disposition, including discharge, hospital admission, or transfer. Coordinate care with nursing, subspecialists, surgeons, and the multidisciplinary team while supervising residents, students, and advanced practice clinicians. Communicate clearly with families regarding diagnoses and treatment options, maintain accurate medical records, and participate in quality improvement and peer review initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Medical degree from an accredited allopathic or osteopathic medical school
- Completion of an accredited Pediatric Emergency Medicine fellowship
- Board certified or board eligible in Pediatric Emergency Medicine
- Eligible to obtain and maintain an unrestricted Tennessee medical license
- Eligible to obtain and maintain hospital medical staff privileges
- Current certification in Pediatric Advanced Life Support, Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life support, Advanced Trauma Life Support, or the ability to obtain certification as required
- Strong clinical judgment and the ability to make timely decisions in high-acuity situations
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to function effectively in a fast-paced and high-pressure clinical environment
- Light lifting, pushing and pulling is required for 10-20 lbs occasionally
- Frequent moving of objects of less than 10 lbs is required
- Frequent sitting with some walking, standing, squatting, bending and reaching is required
Desired Qualifications
- Experience practicing in a high-volume or high-acuity pediatric emergency department
- Familiarity with current pediatric emergency medicine protocols and evidence-based clinical pathways
- Experience with resident, fellow, medical student, or interdisciplinary education
- Interest or experience in quality improvement, patient safety, clinical leadership, research, or program development
